American interventions have generally been aimed at helping non-authoritarian candidates challenge dictators or otherwise promoting democracy.” This is too funny. Non-authoritarian candidates? Like the Gemayyels and other fascistic elements in Lebanon, or the royals in Jordan and Morocco, or the various military generals around Latin America, or Hamid Karzai or Iyad Allawi?
